Happy Anniversary, CMS!
On October 27, 2014 our students were issued their Chromebooks for the very first time. From that moment the teaching and learning process at CMS has looked and felt very different for both teachers and students.
In order to celebrate this milestone we will be serving students "anniversary cake" during the three lunch shifts on Thursday, October 27th. Here's to making our 3rd year as a one-to-one school the best, yet!!

Deputy Johnson has coordinated two upcoming safety related parent informational meetings both scheduled for October 26th at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Cascade High School. The meetings are open to ALL parents of Mill Creek students.
The first will be from 6:30-7:00, presented by a member of the Hendricks County Drug Task Force. This meeting will cover some of the warning signs and symptoms of drug use among teenagers and young adults. They will focus on opioid use, heroin. The detectives will also cover current drug trends they are seeing in the Hendricks County area. They will allow time for a question and answer period.
The second half of the evening will be spent introducing the ALICE program. ALICE (alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate), is the enhanced lockdown program being adopted by Mill Creek Community Schools. Deputy Johnson will give an overview of the program and have a question and answer period.
All CMS students will had their Chromebooks inspected for damages on October 18th. Approximately 25 student devices were found to be in need of repairs. Congratulations to our 6th graders for doing the best job of taking care of their devices as they were responsible for damages to only 6 of the 25 devices.
We have made a four year commitment to these devices and will conduct another round of inspections in late December to ensure that they remain in good working order.
The CMS Student Council will be hosting the annual Halloween Dance after school from 3:00-5:00 in the CMS Cafeteria on Friday, October 28th. Students are encouraged to dress in their favorite Halloween costume for the dance (costumes are not permitted during the school day). The CMS locker room will be available for students to change after school. The cost to attend the dance is $3.00.
The fun doesn't have to stop when the music stops! The CMS athletic department will be selling popcorn from 5:00-7:00 immediately following the dance. The popcorn is an additional $3.00 and students who purchase the popcorn will be treated to free viewing of a variety of "kid friendly" Halloween movies.
Concessions will be available for purchase during the dance and movies.
"Library World" is essentially our library's "card catalog" system that students use to locate books in our Media Center's inventory. We are please to announce that students can access this resource from anywhere using their Chromebooks! Students can access the tool by clicking on the "Resources" tab of this newsletter and then clicking on the button called "Library World". Shop our inventory from home and then stop by to pick up the book you want the next morning when you get to school!
8th Grade Field Trip
8th grade students will be taking a field trip to visit the Area 31 Career Center located at Ben Davis High School on Friday November 18th. Students will learn about the variety of career programs that are available to high school students through the Career Center. This trip is part of the preparation for high school scheduling that will begin early second semester.
We will need approximately 6 parent chaperones for the trip. If you are interested in attending as a chaperone please contact Mrs. Craig at 539-9285 as soon as possible.
Additional details and a permission form will be sent home in the very near future.
Zip City, USA!
Fifty-seven CMS students earned a free trip to Zip City, USA as a result of their efforts to sell 5 or more of the coupon books during our recent PTO fundraiser. Invitations and permission slips were delivered to those students this week. The trip will take place after school on Thursday, November 3rd. Students need to return their signed permission slips ASAP!
