ISTEP Testing Update
Days 1 and 2 of ISTEP Part 2 are in the books. Students this week completed four sessions of Language Arts testing. Attendance at school this week was outstanding which means we have very few students to catch up before testing resumes next week.
Our focus will turn toward the math portion of the test next week. Students will take one session on Tuesday the 25th when they report to their regularly scheduled math class. Two more sessions will be facilitated on Thursday the 27th.
If parents or students would like more information about our schedule or would like to review the data we are aiming to eclipse, please consult THIS information.
We'd like to thank our students for their cooperation, flexibility and effort this week. Just as we ask them to do everyday, DO YOUR BEST and we will have much to celebrate! Keep up the great work next week!
Attention 5th Grade Parents!
Please mark your calendars and plan to join us here at CMS on Monday, May 1st from 6:30-8:00 for our annual "Parent Orientation Night"!
Sending your 5th grader off to middle school can be a scary thought for both students and parents. Most of those feelings of anxiety boil down to simply "the fear of the unknown". This event is designed to help parents feel more comfortable with this major transition and get some questions answered.
We will host an "open house" format from 6:30-7:00 p.m. where parents will be allowed to walk the hallways, see the classrooms, and chat with staff members informally. The structured portion of our presentation will begin in the cafeteria at 7:00 p.m.
Parents are welcome to bring their children. However, we do not have a structured program for the students on May 1st. This event is designed exclusively with parents in mind. The 6th grade student orientation day is scheduled for late July just before school starts in the fall. We look forward to meeting you on May 1st!
Interested in Band Next Year?
Paige's Music will be present with their staff and a variety of instruments to "test drive" for all CMS students who will be considered "beginning instrumentalists" during the 2017-2018 school year. The Paige's staff will be available to help students select the most appropriate instrument and assist parents in guiding them through the flexible rental programs they offer.
This musical instrument display will be available in the CMS Media Center on Monday, May 1st from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and is available to all students interested in participation in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade bands next school year.
All 7th grade students will take the CogAT test in the afternoon on April 27th. The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is a group-administered K–12 assessment intended to estimate students' learned reasoning and problem solving abilities through a battery of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal test items.
This data point is used as part of our process to recommend placement for high school credit programming for our 8th graders.

Attention 7th Grade Parents!
Cascade Middle School offers a comprehensive high school credit program to our 8th grade students. Several of these classes are open to ALL 8th grade students and some are only available "by invitation only".
There are many layers, pros, and cons to consider when deciding to engage with earning high school credit prior to a students' official start of their high school years. Although it is an honor and a great opportunity, the "rules of high school" are very different than middle school. As a result, we will be hosting a "High School Credit Parent Informational Night" on Monday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the CMS Media Center.
CMS administrators, CMS high school credit teachers, and the high school guidance department will be presenting about the available courses, the process for enrollment, and the implications (short term and long term) of taking high school courses as an 8th grade student. Please plan to attend this very informative meeting!
