Spring 2018 ISTEP Part 2
For your planning purposes, Round 2 (multiple choice) of ISTEP testing will begin the week of April 16th statewide.
CMS will NOT start testing until the week of April 23rd. The local testing schedule can be found HERE.
We will meet with students during lunch shifts on Monday 4/23/18 to go over the schedules one final time.
National Junior Honor Society
Forty-Five CMS 7th and 8th grade students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society on Monday night. This select group looks to recognize students who possess a combination of leadership, scholarship, and community service attributes and positive character traits.
Congratulations to those students! Thank you parents for your attendance on Monday and your support! We'd also like to thank Mrs. Craig for providing such a classy ceremony!
Dress Code Reminders
As the weather begins to slowly warm up we always have a need to remind students of a few dress code expectations. School is a formal setting where a diverse group of people coming from varying backgrounds and families converge every day. Modesty and decency will be preserved at all times.
The complete CMS Dress Code can be found on page 16 of the Student Handbook which is linked under the "Resources" tab of this newsletter.
Hey, 7th Grade Students!!
Next year we will again offer Advanced Art for 8th grade students. This class will be a 2 semester course. Those who are selected and successfully complete Advanced Art will earn 1 high school "fine arts" credit before their Freshman year of high school (two "fine arts" credits are required of all students in order to receive a high school diploma).
Two components will be taken into account when selecting those who will be accepted into the class. The first is your grade in 6th and 7th grade Art (where applies), you must have earned a 90% or higher in those classes.
The second component is a 2-D piece of art. This work of art must be created on paper or canvas with one or any combination of the following materials: pencil, pen, watercolor paint, acrylic paint, markers and colored pencils.
What you choose to draw or paint is up to you. Mr. Ballinger will be happy to provide materials if needed. This piece of art must be turned into Mr. Ballinger by Friday, May 11th, 2018.
If you have any questions please feel free to stop by Mr. Ballinger's classroom and ask questions or e-mail your questions to him.
Car Rider Reminder
Parents are reminded to wait in their parking spot or in their position in the pick up line at dismissal (3:00 p.m.) until students walk to the car. When parents jump out of line to pick up students in the parking lot or at the front of the line it creates a more dangerous situation than necessary and brings the line to a halt.
Please wait for students to go to the car... not the car coming to the student. Thank you for your cooperation to contribute to a smooth and SAFE situation for everyone.
Math Problem of the Week
Congratulations to Amanda Fulcher and Alyssa Burnett who were our only two students to correctly answer all parts of last week's MathCounts "Problem of the Week" last week!
As always, students have until Monday morning to complete and submit the POTW for extra credit in their math classes. With the end of the semester approaching, who doesn't want extra credit?! You can pick up the question in the Learning Hub or preview it HERE!

Attention All 6th & 7th Grade Families
A new state law outlining "graduation pathways" for all Indiana students goes into effect next year and will impact all students entering grade 8 for the 2018-2019 school year. The language in the law and our local decisions regarding that law will require ALL 8th grade students to take one semester of a high school credited course called "Preparing for Colleges and Careers". That class will be partnered with an "Introduction to Agriculture" class the other semester.
More information will be made available at our upcoming meeting for all 7th grade families on Tuesday, May 8th.
