ISTEP Next Week
Part 1 (or the "Applied Skills") section of the 2017 ISTEP test will be conducted statewide between February 27-March 10. This is the open-ended or "constructed response" portion of the test.
CMS has targeted testing to take place locally from Wednesday, March 1 - Tuesday, March 7. Click HERE to see out student test schedule.
Between our swimmers, wrestlers, and girls basketball team the CMS Athletic Department is competing 6-8 times each week for the next few weeks during this stretch of the calendar. To keep up with all things sports related here at CMS, make sure you visit what surely must be the most comprehensive middle school athletics website in all of Central Indiana... gocadets.com!
Mill Creek Optimist Speech Contest
The Mill Creek Optimist Club is sponsoring a speech contest this year. The topic this year is: “What the World Gains from Optimism.”
Miss Carpenter (8th grade Language Arts teacher) is willing to meet with any student that is interested in participating in the contest. We will have weekly meetings to work on the speeches and practice!
Any student in grades 6-8 is welcome to participate, and the contest will be held the week before spring break. This is a great opportunity to practice public speaking skills with the chance to earn prizes, such as scholarship money!
Photographers will be here at CMS on Friday, March 10th to take Spring pictures. Order forms and envelopes are available in the main office for anyone who would like to order photographs.
CMS students participate in an anonymous survey published by the Indiana Prevention Resource Center (IPRC) every other year to gauge, monitor, and track adolescent opinions, attitudes, and use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. It is our turn to take the survey again this year and all CMS students will complete this survey during their science classes on Friday, March 10th. We will publish our data once it is tabulated and returned to us.
To learn more about the IPRC, you can access their website HERE.

Another Successful Book Fair!
Our annual Scholastic Book Fair concluded on Friday of this week. We will post official totals and proceeds on our school Facebook page in a couple of days once those numbers are available.
THANK YOU to our parent volunteers who helped set up, organize, and staff the book fair this week. As special THANKS to Kim Myers for taking the lead in coordinating this event for us this year. We could NOT have done this without so much fantastic parent support!
End of 3rd Nine Weeks
The end of the 3rd nine weeks grading period is officially Friday, March 10th. As a reminder, the first and third grading periods are really nothing more than glorified progress reports. Because this information can be obtained in real time via Power School, we will not issue hard copies of student grades unless they are requested by the parent.
