Great American Eclipse
The Great American Eclipse is this Monday! All CMS students will be participating in the event. Special "NASA Approved" viewing glasses have been purchased for each student and science teachers will be incorporating the celestial event into their curriculum on Monday. This is nearly a once in a lifetime learning opportunity for our students and we are thrilled to be a part of it with them!
If for any reason at all you do not want your child to be directly involved in the viewing, we will have the event televised in our Learning Hub. Just contact your child's science teacher.
Math Problem of the Week
The CMS Learning Hub would like to challenge all CMS students and even their families to work together in an effort to solve our weekly math Problems of the Week. New questions are available for pick up each Monday in the Learning Hub. Students simply need to turn in that sheet with their name before the end of the day on Fridays. Winners will be recognized each Monday as new questions are made available.
This past week's question can be found HERE. Congratulations to CMS 8th grader Amanda Fulcher who was the only student to correctly answer all three parts of that question!
The CMS Learning Hub is open Monday-Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
School pictures were taken here at school on Wednesday 8/16. If your child was absent from school or if you missed out on an opportunity to purchase your child's photograph, we will have a re-take day on October 25th.
Book Rental for 2017-2018
Book rental invoices will be mailed home within the next week or so. Payment will not be due until close to the first of October. Please contact Leah Watson with any questions about the bill or payment method. She can be reached at email@example.com or by calling the front desk at 317-539-9285.
Clinic Info / Reminder
As a reminder, all student medication (over the counter and prescritption) must be housed and stored in the CMS clinic. Our nurse an office staff will dispense medication to students as needed or as prescribed. However, parents are responsible to send all medicines to school. We can not even dispense simple OTC meds such as Tums for an upset stomach or Tylenol for a small headache unless that child has provided their own personal supply. All medications that are brought in by students will ONLY be dispensed to that child.

Ever have this conversation with your child at home?
Parent: "How was school today?"
Parent: "What did you learn?"
The "Classroom News" tab above is dedicated to hopefully helping parents have more engaging and meaningful conversations with their children about what is really going on inside some of our classrooms.
Try asking your children about the specific content that teachers mention in the "Classroom News" section of the newsletter and see if you can't get more than one word answers from your children when you ask about their day!
Parent & Teacher Engagement Dates
Thank you to the parents who came to one of our three Parent/Teacher Engagement events so far. If you've missed out or if you'd like to spend more time with a teacher, please plan to attend one of our last two dates and events listed below.
As always, if you ever want to meet or talk with a teacher regardless of the day, please call us and we will set up that opportunity immediately!
Canvas Parent Accounts
ALL parents are encouraged to establish a Canvas Parent View Account. Instructions on how to do so are included under the Resources tab of this newsletter.
The Canvas Parent View will enable parents to practically follow along with their child's classes nearly in real time. Daily agendas, assignments (both in class and outside of class), and most resources shared with students in class can be viewed.
This is an incredible tool to stay on top of your child's academic life! Please contact us if you need assistance in setting up that account.
CMS Board Games Club
Mr. Neilson will be leading a club to give students a chance to learn how to play various board games after school. We will mostly play games that involve strategy and not games that focus on speed or wordplay. In the past we have played the following games: Settlers of Catan, Port Royal, Marvel: Sentinels of the Universe, Bang and many more.
If you come to Games Club be ready to learn new games, meet new friends and have a lot of fun! A small snack will be provided. We will meet twice a month on Tuesdays from 3-5:00 p.m. Our first meeting be on August 29th in Mr. Neilson’s room! Snacks and drinks will be provided.
Students should bring this signed permission slip with them on the 29th so that we know students have transportation arranged to take them home.
